Im trying to model a 5 story stair. I need to draw some of the structure that supports it.

The problem is I have a ten 10 limit and the actual stairs arent near 10 tons but when I try to detail it I get the limit reached message. I dont need to detail the building structural steel, ust the stairs. So is there a way to turn them into dummy items with no weight, or to make AS ignore them altogether?

I dont want to delete the steel because I  have to show a section view of the stair to structure connections.

Thank you!!

Hello,

No, you can't assign to an Advance Steel element the weight 0, or to make it a dummy beam/plate. The whole structure which is present on a model file needs to be smaller then 10tons in order to number it and then generate details.

Best Regards,
Dumitru Berteanu.

There is another possibility to not delete the elements in the structure which you don't need, but you want them in overview drawings. You can Explode them to ACIS (Autocad Solids) using the function "Explode to ACIS" available at right-click on the AS object. This will transform the object into a solid which Advance Steel will not number, it will not appear in BoM extracts and will not be detailed in Single Part drawings. Still, you can have the avaliable in overview details, but without any dimensions or posibility to add a label to it.

Dumitru,
If I understand correctly if John wants to have a dummy member, he can draw it to the shape he wants then by selecting it & using Proprietress,> Behavior> he can UN-CHECK  Single part & assembly boxes & leave Used for collision box checked to check the collision if necessary.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello Greg,

Only exploding into ACIS the members became dummy members.

Unchecking the elements, Advance Steel will still take into account the mass of the structure which is limited to 10tones.
